STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES FOR URINE ROUTINE



1. SPECIMEN:

  1. Urine sample

2. EQUIPMENT & REAGENTS

  1. Equipment:
    1. Microscope
      2. Reagents:
            2.1. Reagent Test Strip

3. PROCEDURE:

  1. Perform visual inspection:
a. Color =  _(Normal color is light yellowish)_
b. Transparency = (Normally transparent)
  1. Perform Urine strip test for sugar, pH, protein content, etc. Compare color chart to determine
      presence or absence for the test specified.          
  1. Perform microscopic test at 40X objective magnification:
            a. Prepare wet preparation of urine and observe the entire slide in microscope.
            b. Check for presence of:
                  RBC – (Normally few or absent)
                  Pus cells – (Normally few or absent)
                  Epithelial cells- (Normally few or absent)
                  Casts - (Normally nearly clear)
                  Crystals – (Normally absent or few)
                  Microbial particles – (Normally sterile)
4. Prepare lab report of the observations.
