STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES FOR URINE BILE PIGMENT


1. SPECIMEN:

  1. Fresh urine sample

2. EQUIPMENT & REAGENTS


  1. Reagent:
    1. Rapid Bile Pigment Reagent

3. PROCEDURE (GMELIN'S TEST):

  1. Fill small test tube (75 x 10 mm) with approximately 2 mL fresh urine.
  2. Overlap slowly about four drop of Rapid Bile pigment reagent over the sample (do not mix).
  3. Wait for1 minute.
  4. Presence of bile pigment indicates a green colored ring of biliverdin in between the reagent and sample phase.
  5. Run a non negative and positive sample to compare the result
  6. Prepare lab report of the observations.
